The BCCI has set up a new fitness Test named as ‘Broncho Test’, which will be the new benchmark to test the fitness and agility of the players. It is said to be one of the toughest fitness challenges athletes face.

The fitness trail was added by India’s new strength and conditioning coach, Adrian le Roux, along with other fitness evaluations like the Yo-Yo test and 2km trial run.

When exactly the BCCI will set these parameters is yet to be known. Meanwhile, with many Indian players still recovering from their respective injuries and some managing their workload, the rationale of this fitness Test is questionable.

Not A Lot Of Oxygen, Lungs Would Burn - ABD On Broncho Test

Former South African skipper AB De Villiers has given an insight into the Broncho test in his recent YouTube video. He spoke about the difficulties athletes face while giving this Test.

“It's one of the worst you can do. I very clearly remember at the University of Pretoria, also at SuperSport Park, in the cold winter mornings of South Africa, in particular, where there's not a lot of oxygen. The altitude here is, I think, 1,500 meters above sea level. So, not a lot of oxygen, and those lungs would burn,” said ABD as he explained that players often struggle to breathe properly while giving this Test.

Previously, former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin also questioned the need of this fitness Test with everything going well with all the players from the national team.

“When the trainers change, the testing mechanism changes… players go through a lot of difficulty. In many cases, it could also lead to injuries,” Ashwin said on his YouTube channel, urging continuity in fitness systems.
