In a massive development, the International Cricket Council (ICC), like it usually does, updated the men's player rankings on Wednesday, August 27. India's Test skipper Shubman Gill continued to retain his top position, followed by ODI leader Rohit Sharma. However, with India not playing ODI matches after the Champions Trophy 2025 event, both batters' rankings and positions are unmoved. South Africa & Australia players have gained significantly, owing to the recently concluded three-match ODI series.

Aussie opener Travis Head, who scored a blazing ton in the third ODI, gained one position and is currently sitting in 11th position. However, the southpaw is far from Gill, who is first with 784 rating points, followed by Rohit and Pakistan's Babar Azam with 756 and 739 points, respectively. Apart from Head, the other Australian teammate to gain significantly is all-rounder Cameron Green, who progressed 40 places to be the 78th-ranked player in the list.

Josh Inglis was also one of the significant gainers, moving to 64th position, courtesy of his good returns against South Africa.

Shubman Gill & Rohit Sharma have a golden chance to solidify the top position against Australia ODI series

Notably, both Shubman Gill & Rohit Sharma have a golden chance to strengthen their respective one and two spots in ICC ODI Rankings in the upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia, starting on October 19. However, for that to happen, both batters need to display consistency in three ODIs. While India's Test skipper is busy playing throughout, Rohit last played international cricket in March during the Champions Trophy 2025 event.

Also, there are swirling rumors surrounding this could be the Mumbai batter's last series as BCCI wants to phase him and Virat Kohli before the ODI World Cup 2027 event, which is two years away. Although nothing has been confirmed, there is huge anticipation and an announcement expected either by the Board's chief selection panel or by Rohit himself.
