Delhi Capitals' opening duo, Karun Nair and Faf du Plessis, took to the field after Pat Cummins won the toss and decided to bowl first.
Pat Cummins opened the bowling with a new ball and made an immediate impact, dismissing Karun Nair for a golden duck with a good-length delivery just outside off stump. Nair, caught in two minds, fell to the delivery. Ishan Porel then entered the middle as Cummins completed a tight first over, which featured some encouraging movement off the surface.Â
Jaydev Unadkat, who bowled the second over, maintained the pressure by conceding only 3 runs. Cummins continued his spell and struck again on the very first ball of his third over, this time dismissing Faf du Plessis. He bowled a back-of-a-length delivery that deceived du Plessis, resulting in an edge caught by Ishan Kishan. Delhi Capitals found themselves in a dire situation, losing their second wicket for just 6 runs.

Pat Cummins get his 3rd wicket
Pat Cummins was relentless and struck again with his first ball in the next over, dismissing Ishan Porel. Porel attempted to play a delivery down the leg side but edged it high, allowing Kishan to take a comfortable catch, marking his third catch of the match. Delhi Capitals were now struggling at 19/3 after 5 overs.
Delhi Capitals skipper Axar Patel joined KL Rahul in the middle, and the duo relieved some of the pressure with a few boundaries against Harshal Patel. Unfortunately, Axar Patel's attempt to hit a big shot backfired, leading to a mistimed slog caught easily by Cummins. This marked the dismissal of the fourth Delhi Capitals batter in the powerplay. By the end of the powerplay, the Capitals had posted a disappointing 26/4 after 6 overs.
